Illinois Quitline is a free resource for tobacco users who want to quit for good. The Quitline staff of nurses, respiratory therapists, and tobacco-cessation specialists are available 7 days a week to provide support and design a customized kit plan, which includes self-help materials, information about nicotine replacement therapies, and requested health information. For more information call 1-866-QUIT-YES or go to quityes.org.
Becoming a smoke-free establishment
Why is it important to become a smoke-free housing development?
Secondhand smoke is a major concern for residents of multi-unit housing (e.g apartment buildings and condominiums). It can migrate from other units and common areas and travel through doorways, cracks in walls, electrical lines, plumbing, and ventilation systems. For more information, look at the Prezi on Smoke-free Housing.
- Prezi on Smoke-Free Housing
- Healthy Homes Manual –Smoke Free-Policies in Multiunit Housing: The CDC Manual on the dangers of secondhand smoke, the different types of smoke-free policies for housing, and how to implement healthy home policies.
- Sample Resident Survey This is a sample survey that landlords can give to residents to assess the interest in having a smoke-free policy.
- Sample No Smoking Policy This is a sample no-smoking policy that landlords can incorporate when designing a new policy for their units.
- Sample Property Manager Owner Letter This is a sample letter residents can send to landlords regarding the need for a smoke-free policy in their building.
