Sensory Room

Sensory push   (2)The Sensory Room at Prieto Community Center is a dedicated space to support sensory regulation. Any visitor is welcome to use the room as a calming space. 

Items available inside the room include:

  • bean bag chair
  • tent
  • honeycomb touch lights
  • fish bubble tube
  • tactile sequin mat
  • floor mats
  • magna-tiles
  • weighted lap pad
  • remote-controlled ice cube lights
  • vibroacoustic music rocking chair with Bluetooth connection

The Sensory Room was made possible by the generous support of the Evanston Parks Foundation.

 

Communication Tools

Social stories about Prieto Community Center and about the Sensory Room are available at the front desk and inside the Sensory Room.

A large communication board is available in the Let's Play space to provide an alternative way for individuals to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas.

 

Sensory Items

Small sensory tools are available to check out at the front desk including:

  • fidget spinners
  • hedgehog balls
  • whiteboards with markers
  • noise-canceling headphones.
