rainexperimentDesigned to offer families an additional option to the traditional preschool experience, STEAM classes in the Blue Room focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Our classes give children an opportunity to spend time in our large gym as well as the classroom, balancing out their need to play and run with educational opportunities in a supportive atmosphere. Our small class size makes our Blue Room classes an ideal option for your child's first preschool experience, while our flexible schedule (which includes drop-in options) allows families and caregivers to have a little extra time every week for errands, household chores and more.

Class Information

Classes run for 5 or 7 weeks for children ages 3-5 years, children must be potty trained and drop-in options are available if the class has space. To confirm drop-in option please call 847-448-8252 at least 24 hours prior to the class. Drop in fees are $27 per class for Evanston residents and $36 per class for Non-Residents.

Meet our Teacher-Grace Byrnes

I am so thrilled to be teaching in the Blue Room at Chandler-Newberger! As an Evanston mother of three children, Chandler-Newberger has been such an integral part of our lives for over a decade and counting. I also happen to be a former classroom teacher with over six years of experience teaching Science, Social Studies and Reading. I have a Mater's Degree in Educational Leadership and have served on numerous committees, developed curricula and enjoyed creating and facilitating extra-curricular activities for my students. I have also enjoyed volunteering at my children's schools, whether it be presenting a mat lesson in preschool, assisting with journaling or reading some of my favorite children's books. More recently I have been a volunteer toddler class teacher, creating thematic classes that incorporate exploration, art, movement and music. I just love being in the classroom and working with young learners and I cannot wait to create, experiment and play with our Blue Room participants. Ms. Grace can be reached by calling the main Chandler phone number, 847-448-8252, or at

The Chandler-Newberger Community Center is located at 1028 Central Street. Set back off of the road at the end of a parking lot, our building can sometimes be a challenge to find the first time. Our building is located between the Central Street purple line el stop and the Canal Shores Golf Course on the south side of Central Street. We are across the street from Fire Station #3.

Our parking lot includes metered parking, however participants can obtain a free parking pass for the lot while participating in our programs. Please visit our front office to obtain a permit for parking. Permits are free.

The phone number to our office is 847-448-8252.

The Program Coordinator for the Blue Room classes is Michelle Tompkins. She can be reached at 847-448-8681 or
