On July 9, 2018 Police Chief Rich Eddington announced his intent to retire in December 2018. In preparation for that staff reached out to 5 executive search recruitment firms to solicit bids for conducting a nationwide search to fill this position. Three bids were received and the City is moving forward with vendor GovHR (630 Dundee Road, Suite 130, Northbrook, Illinois 60062) with a contract in the amount of $19,500.
GovHR has released a Executive Recruitment brochure for Chief of Police. Candidates interested in applying should submit a resume and cover letter, along with contact information for five professional references by October 12, 2018 to www.govhrjobs.com. Once the materials are received, GovHR will conduct reference interviews and due diligence on candidates, providing the City with a diverse pool of highly qualified candidates. Panel interviews will take place sometime in November. If you are interested in being on the community panel for Police Chief interviews, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
A main component of the recruitment process is a facilitated community meeting, which took place on September 5, 2018, where residents provided feedback to the recruiters on what qualities they seek in the next Chief of Police. The vendor will use the feedback to create the recruitment brochure and will ensure that candidates closely align with the values and qualities that the community voiced as important. Once the recruitment brochure is complete and the position is posted the process will continue for approximately 60-90 days until a final set of candidates is selected for a second and third round of interviews.
On October 16, 2018 the City Manager met with students at Evanston Township High School to see what qualities they are seeking in the next Police Chief and what questions they have to ask the candidates. Questions for the new Police Chief, Qualifications for a new Police Chief
