The City of Evanston and Northwestern University have partnered to facilitate the removal of bulk trash items generated by residents and students moving in and out at the beginning of the school year.
From Tuesday, August 22 through Friday, September 22, the first 200 residents (students or other residents) living in the area adjacent to the Evanston campus who call the City to have large trash items removed will receive the service at no charge. To be eligible for this free service, residents must live in the area bounded by Ridge Avenue, Colfax Street, Orrington Avenue and Emerson Street.
How to Request a Pick-up
- Call the City of Evanston at 3-1-1 ( 847-448-4311 outside of Evanston).
- The City will verify that your address is in the specified area and assign a pick-up date.
- Put the items to be picked up in your regular trash collection area the night before your pick-up date.
Please note: Absolutely no yard waste, construction debris, or hazardous waste of any kind will be removed in these pick-ups.
All routine garbage should be handled in the normal manner, using the approved containers provided by the resident or landlord. If you are new to Evanston and need to know how to sort your recycled items and refuse, visit cityofevanston.org/recycling.
Bulk trash pick-up for all residents will be offered in October. To view the schedule, visit cityofevanston.org/bulktrash.
