Effective November 1, 2025
On July 14, 2025, the Evanston City Council approved awarding a contract to LRS to provide refuse and yard waste services to the City’s residential customer base. This change will replace the City’s current provider, Groot, while recycling collection will continue to be handled by the City’s Public Works Agency.
This page will serve as the central hub for updates, reminders, and resources related to the transition. Check back regularly for the latest information.
What to Expect Before the Transition

Over the coming months, the City will send mailers to impacted households with details, reminders, and any actions needed.

Service Guidelines (Effective Under LRS Contract)
These guidelines will continue to apply under the new service agreement:

All waste (refuse, recycling, yard waste) must be placed at the curb or alley line by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Waste will not be collected from private property.

Crews (City or LRS) will only pick up waste from designated City-issued containers.

All trash must be bagged, contained, or bundled.

Crews will not collect the following:

Car parts, tires, electronics, construction materials

Gas, oil, asbestos, and medical waste

Other hazardous materials

Households needing a special pickup can request one through the 311 Center.
