A request was made at the February 6, 2017 Human Services Committee meeting to make Evanston Police Department (EPD) matters more easily available to the residents of the City of Evanston.  The City of Evanston strives to promote transparency in all operations. By providing as much data as possible through our website residents can be better informed about what is going on in their city.

The EPD presented its policies and procedures at the February Human Services meeting. From that discussion, the Committee requested staff develop an initial framework for a citizen complaint working group and to report back at the next meeting. Citizen meetings were held on February 23 and March 2, 2017 for feedback and assistance with the development of a citizen complaint working group. A feedback report was presented to Human Services Committee on March 6, 2017. The Committee requested two more citizen feedback meetings, which were Thursday, April 6 and Wednesday, April 19. An additional meeting was scheduled Wednesday, April 26. The meetings were facilitated by Mr. Matthew Walsh, a community member, to reach a community group consensus on a recommendation for the creation of a "Working Group" which will review the police complaint process and procedures. A recommendation was reported by City staff to the Human Services Committee on May 1, 2017 meeting.

In addition, the Human Services Committee requested at its February meeting that EPD present a Police statistic dashboard beginning in March 2017 and a reformatted presentation of the monthly crime statistic data in April 2017.  Additional materials can be found on the Human Services Committee webpage.
