Parks and Green Space Strategic Plan
Call for Public Comment:
The City of Evanston is inviting residents to review and provide feedback on theDraft Parks and Green Space Strategic Plan, a visionary framework that will guide the future of Evanston’s parks and recreation system for years to come.
The comprehensive Strategic Plan is designed to shape a long-term approach to maintaining, enhancing, and investing in Evanston’s parks, green spaces, and recreational facilities. Developed through a combination of detailed data analysis and robust community engagement, the Plan sets out clear goals to meet the evolving needs of the Evanston community.
Key objectives of the Plan include:
- Developing recreation programming that reflects community needs and trends
- Recommending infrastructure investment priorities
- Identifying new amenities needed within the park system
- Guiding vegetation maintenance and green space management
- Supporting capital grant applications
- Establishing a capital investment program for the park and recreation system
- Exploring opportunities to integrate green infrastructure where appropriate

Project Summary:
This project will create a long term, and comprehensive strategic plan (Plan) for the parks and recreation system. Through a combination of data collection and extensive public engagements, the Plan will evaluate existing park and recreation assets, assess current and future programming needs, develop investment priorities, and assess potential green infrastructure opportunities. The Plan will be used to:
- Understand and develop recreation programming based on community needs and trends
- Recommend investment priorities for park, and recreation infrastructure based on existing conditions, community needs, and current trends
- Prioritize recommendations for new amenities needed within the park system
- Prioritize vegetation maintenance
- Manage decisions in green spaces
- Apply for capital grants
- Develop the park and recreation systems’ capital investment program
- Incorporate green infrastructure opportunities as feasible and appropriate
