The North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF) Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) serves twelve communities in Northern Illinois: Evanston, Glencoe, Glenview, Kenilworth, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles, Northbrook, Northfield, Skokie, Wilmette, and Winnetka.
Responsibilities
MCAT provides rapid response and detailed crash investigations. Team members:
-
Secure and document crash scenes
-
Identify and collect evidence
-
Analyze technical crash data
-
Prepare investigative reports and findings
Using technical information gathered during the investigation, the team works to determine the events and contributing factors of the crash in a clear and unbiased manner. MCAT may also provide technical findings to assist the requesting agency if a violation of law is identified.
All investigations are conducted with professionalism, integrity, and respect for the constitutional rights of everyone involved.
Requesting MCAT Records
Requests for information related to an MCAT investigation should be directed to the law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction where the crash occurred. Requests may be submitted through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, subpoena, or other legal process.
