Parking Restrictions for District 6: Northwestern Events

Parking restrictions will be enforced two hours before, during, and one hour after each event. 

Northwestern University's Football Games for the 2025 Season

Northwestern University has announced its football games for the 2025 season at the Lakefront Stadium. The times have not yet been posted. Times are to be determined. 

  • September 6th vs Western Illinois
  • September 13th vs Oregon
  • September 27th vs UCLA
  • October 4th vs LA-Monroe
  • October 18th vs Purdue

It is important to note that Northwestern has two additional home games scheduled to be played at Wrigley Field: November 15 against Michigan and November 22 against Minnesota.

For the 2025/2026 Northwestern Basketball season at Welsh-Ryan Arena, dates, opponents, and game times have not yet been announced.

  • October 29, 2025 – Basketball vs. Illinois State 7:00 p.m. (Exhibition Game) 
  • November 3, 2025 – Basketball vs. Mercyhurst at 7:00 p.m.
  • November 7, 2025 – Basketball vs. Boston University at 5:00 p.m. 
  • November 10, 2025 – Basketball vs. Cleveland State at 7:30 p.m.
  • December 6, 2025 - Basketball vs. Ohio State at 1:00 p.m. 
  • December 13, 2025 – Basketball vs. Jackson State at 1:00 p.m.
  • December 16, 2025 – Basketball vs. Valparaiso at 7:00 p.m. 
  • December 30, 2025 – Basketball vs. Howard at 4:00 p.m. 
  • January 3, 2026 - Basketball vs. Minnesota at 4:00 p.m.
  • January 14, 2026 - Basketball vs. Illinois at 7:30 p.m.
  • January 17, 2026 - Basketball vs. Nebraska at 3:00 p.m.
  • January 29, 2026 - Basketball vs. Penn State at 7:00 p.m.
  • January 31, 2026 - Basketball vs. Washington at 7:00 p.m.
  • February 11, 2026 - Basketball vs. Michigan at 7:30 p.m.
  • February 18, 2026 - Basketball vs. Maryland at 7:00 p.m.
  • February 28, 2026 - Basketball vs. Oregon at 1:00 p.m.
  • March 4, 2026 - Basketball vs. Purdue at 7:30 p.m.
  • May 17, 2026 – ETHS Graduation at 10:00 a.m.
  • June 12-15, 2026 (Friday-Monday) – Northwestern Commencement (Times vary)

Previous Event Information

Please be advised that multiple graduation ceremonies will take place the weekend of Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25. Please expect increased traffic around the Welsh-Ryan Area (U2 District) and parking restriction enforcement for District 6. Parking restrictions will be enforced two hours before and one hour after each event.

  • Saturday, May 24: Loyola Academy's ceremony is at 11 a.m. Parking will be enforced from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Sunday, May 25: Niles West and Niles North High School graduation ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Parking will be enforced from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Please be advised that multiple graduation ceremonies will take place the weekend of June 14. Please expect increased traffic around the Welsh-Ryan Area (U2 District) and parking restriction enforcement for District 6. Parking restrictions will be enforced two hours before and one hour after each event.

Northwestern University graduations will take place on June 14, 15, and 16. Parking restrictions will be enforced during the times listed below for each date. Each event is expected to last around 3 hours.

  • Saturday, June 14: School of Communication -  9 a.m.; Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences - 3 p.m.

  • Sunday, June 15: Kellogg School of Management - Doors open at 1:30 p.m.  Ceremony begins at 3 p.m.

  • Monday, June 16: McCormick School of Engineering - 9 a.m.; Undergraduate Convocation - 2 p.m.

At the request of local residents concerned about traffic congestion and parking difficulties, the Council approved the ordinance referenced below. This ordinance implements parking restrictions in District 6 (refer to the accompanying map below) during specific Northwestern University events held at Ryan Field and Welsh Ryan Arena, (U2 District).

A "designated Northwestern event" is defined as any gathering with an expected attendance exceeding 4,000 individuals. These restrictions aim to ensure safety and ease of access for both residents and event attendees during busy event days.

At this time, there are no official events planned at either Ryan Field or the Welsh Ryan Arena. The City is actively working on upgrading the infrastructure surrounding this.
