Ombudsman Unit
The Long-term Care Ombudsman advocates for the rights, dignity, and quality of life of individuals residing in long-term care facilities, including nursing homes and similar settings. Mandated by the federal Older Americans Act and Illinois Act on Aging, the Ombudsman serves as a confidential resource for residents, their families, and facility staff — listening to concerns, investigating complaints, and collaborating with families and facility staff to address issues related to care, safety, and residents' rights. Our team is committed to empowering families and long-term care residents and ensuring they receive person-centered quality care.
Our Ombudsman hosts monthly meetings to offer the community resources and insight into a multitude of issues that are faced in long-term care. The meeting is at 10 a.m. on the first Thursday of every month in the Falcon Room at the Evanston Public Library. For more information, email cmitchell@cityofevanston.org or 847-866-2921.
