Evanston Receives State of Illinois Clean Marina Certification
With Earth Week underway, the Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce that the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has officially awarded the City certification through the Illinois Clean Marina Program. This recognition highlights the City’s ongoing commitment to protecting Lake Michigan and advancing environmentally responsible boating practices.
As part of this achievement, both the Church Street Boat Ramp and the Dempster Street Beach Launch Facility have been designated as certified Clean Marina sites.
About the Illinois Clean Marina Initiative
The Illinois Clean Marina Initiative is a voluntary, incentive-based program that encourages marina and boat launch operators and recreational boaters to protect water quality through environmentally responsible practices. From reducing pollution to improving maintenance procedures, the program provides guidance and tools to help keep our waterways clean and healthy.
With recreational boating continuing to grow in popularity, protecting our shoreline is more important than ever. Because marinas and launch facilities are located directly along the water’s edge, even small operational improvements can have a significant impact in preventing pollutants from entering our lakes.
By earning this certification, Evanston is recognized for its environmental stewardship and leadership in preserving natural resources for current and future generations.
“We’re proud to celebrate this achievement and remain committed to keeping Evanston’s lakefront clean, safe, and sustainable for all,” said Tim Carter, Lakefront and Athletics Division Manager.
