City to Conduct Water Main Work Along Ridge Beginning August 12, Causing a Street Closure from Noyes to Simpson Streets

Water main construction along Ridge Avenue is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 12, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., between Noyes and Simpson Streets. A complete street closure will be in effect during these hours. Please anticipate delays and temporary access restrictions. Work will continue in phases through approximately September 17, requiring some additional closures and traffic impacts. See the phased work schedule below. 

Phased Work Schedule

Construction on Ridge Avenue will take place in four phases:

  • Phase 1 (August 12): Installation of a new water main along Ridge Avenue. Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., requiring a full closure between Noyes and Simpson Streets.

  • Phase 2 (Approx. 18 working days): Following Phase 1, crews will connect water services along Leonard Place. This work will not impact Ridge Avenue traffic, and ramped plates will ensure safe roadway access. The approximate timeline is August 13 through September 8, weather permitting.

  • Phase 3 (1-2 working days): Final utility connections. This phase requires a full road closure on Ridge Avenue between Noyes and Simpson Streets, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The approximate timeline is September 9 and 10, weather permitting.

  • Phase 4 (5 working days): Roadway restoration and concrete pouring. A full road closure is not required; however, the contractor will implement temporary traffic control to maintain two-way access. Plates will be used overnight to maintain a safe driving surface during concrete curing. The approximate timeline is September 11 through 17, weather permitting.

In collaboration with the contractor and utility partners, the City will work to ensure safety and implement effective traffic-control measures. Updates regarding work hours, traffic impacts, and schedule changes will be shared at cityofevanston.org/news.

Drivers are encouraged to allow additional travel time, consider alternate routes when possible, and follow all posted signs and directions from construction and public safety personnel.
