City Invites Community to Help Name New Café at Prieto Community Center, Opening This Fall
A new café is coming this fall to the Dr. Jorge & Luz Maria Prieto Community Center, and the Evanston Parks and Recreation Department and Councilmember Geracaris are inviting the community to help name it!
The new café will feature brewed and espresso coffee drinks, teas, local pastries, small plates, snacks, and soft-serve ice cream.
Located at the heart of Evanston’s inclusive and accessible community programming, Prieto Community Center is home to the City’s Inclusion & Accessibility Division, including ADA/Disability Services, Inclusion Services, and Accessible Recreation programming. The center also offers the Let’s Play! drop-in play space, a new preschool program, gymnastics, Jr. Ninja classes, and more.
Prieto’s cozy atmosphere and unique programs promote acceptance, awareness, and belonging. The City hopes these values will be reflected in the café’s new name.
Community members will have one week to submit their ideas, from Thursday, September 10 through Thursday, September 17. Name ideas can be submitted through the Café Naming Contest Submission Form. Individuals who would like to submit their idea in another format may contact Lauren Ruiz at lruiz@cityofevanston.org or 847-859-7697.
Councilmember Geracaris and Parks and Recreation staff will select their top 10 submissions, and the community will then have the opportunity to vote for their favorite. The person who submitted the winning name will receive free coffee for a month, along with a shoutout at the next City Council meeting.
