City Seeks Volunteers for 2026-27 Snow Shoveling Program

The City of Evanston is once again offering its Snow Shoveling Program this winter to connect older adult residents and persons with disabilities with volunteers who are offering snow shoveling services.

Those seeking assistance or wanting to volunteer should sign up at cityofevanston.org/shoveling. This year, the program is expanding to offer two volunteer opportunities. You may sign up for either role or choose to participate in both.

How it Works

Residents Requesting Snow Shoveling

Evanston residents who request snow-shoveling assistance will receive a list of available volunteers in their area. Residents are responsible for contacting volunteers from the provided list and scheduling their services. Volunteers are responsible for completing the work or notifying the resident if they are unable to complete the work. This program is a free service, and there should be no exchange of money and/or goods.

Accessible Pathways and Shared Spaces

The last couple of winters have brought an increasing number of ADA concerns related to snow pile-ups in the access aisles of our accessible parking spaces, around curb cuts, and across intersection platforms throughout the City, all of which block access for individuals with disabilities. The City's ADA Coordinator will communicate directly with volunteers about opportunities and assignments within this role.

Volunteer

The City is seeking individuals who are interested in helping keep areas accessible for older adults and persons with disabilities. Those willing to volunteer their time should fill out the Snow Shoveler Volunteer Intake Form or call/text 847-448-4311.

Register for Assistance

Older adults or persons with disabilities can register for the program by calling/texting 847-448-4311 or completing the Request for Snow Shoveling Assistance Form.
