CPR Classes
Kids First Aid Event
Who: Students in 1st through 8th grade
When: Sunday, March 1st at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m.

Learning first aid and CPR at a young age can make a real difference. Early CPR, combined with defibrillation and advanced life support, significantly increases the chances of survival for someone experiencing a cardiac arrest. Give your child the skills and confidence to save lives!
Activities will include: Build-your-own First Aid Kits, Learn basic first-aid skills, and get familiar with hands-only CPR. Kids will be grouped by age. The $20 fee will help cover part of the cost of the kits.
Public CPR Courses
To better serve our community, the Evanston Fire Department is offering four courses to the general public that are authorized by the American Heart Association: three are certification courses, and the last is informative.
The early initiation of quality CPR has proven to increase the survival rate of patients who suffer a cardiac arrest. Combining community CPR with early defibrillation and advanced life support has proven to save lives.
Certifying Courses: Certified upon completion.

BLS CPR AED Course – Basic Life Support
This course is designed for healthcare professionals and lasts approximately four hours. It prepares providers to care for patients in both pre-hospital and in-facility settings. Upon completion, students receive a certification card valid for two years. Participants must be at least 16 years old.Included: BLS Student Manual

Heartsaver CPR AED Course
This course is designed for the general public and lasts approximately three hours. Heartsaver courses are ideal for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for work, regulatory requirements (such as OSHA), or personal preparedness. Participants also gain the skills and confidence to respond effectively in emergencies.Certification: Students receive a course completion card valid for 2 years
Age: 12 years and older

Heartsaver First Aid & CPR Combo Course
This seven-hour course is designed for the general public and teaches essential skills to respond to emergencies until professional help arrives. Students learn first aid, choking relief for adults, children, and infants, and how to respond to sudden cardiac arrest, including CPR and AED use for all ages.Age: 12 years and older
Included: Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Student Manual
Cost: Residents $80 | Non-Residents $100
Informative Course: Learn basic hands-only CPR skills. Not certification seeking.
**This class is offered at community engagement events throughout the year**
- Friends and Family CPR Course
This course is for the general public, is non-certifying, and is approximately 1-1.5 hours long. Family & Friends CPR is for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a CPR course completion card to meet a job requirement. This course is ideal for community groups, new parents, grandparents, babysitters, and others interested in learning how to save a life. (age 10 yo+)

- May 20, 6 p.m. to 9/10 p.m. (CPR - Both Heartsaver & BLS certification classes are offered)
- September 9, 6 p.m. to 9/10 p.m. (CPR - Both Heartsaver & BLS certification classes are offered)
- October 10, 9 a.m. to 3/4 p.m. (First Aid/CPR Combo class)
- November 4, 6 p.m. to 9/10 p.m. (CPR - Both Heartsaver & BLS certification classes are offered)
