New! Sprinkler Ordinance Updated
Evanston Fire & Life-Safety Services maintains a full-time professional staff of 111 members. The staff includes 109 sworn members and two civilian support personnel. In 2007, we responded to 8,517 calls, which resulted in 19,133 fire department vehicle responses for that year.
Our goal is to prevent fires and life-loss through the finest in fire protection, rescue, emergency medical services, and fire prevention services. We have five fire stations located
throughout the City. The fire stations are staffed 24 hours a day/365 days a year. These stations house five fire engines, two ladder trucks, two ambulances, and a Command Vehicle.
We have two reserve fire engines, one reserve ladder truck, and a reserve ambulance. The majority of our members are certified paramedics in addition to being firefighters.
Besides staffing two Advanced Life-Support Ambulances, every engine company is equipped with Advanced Life-Support equipment. This means as soon as the fire engine arrives, it can begin life-saving treatment even before the ambulance arrives. By summer of 2008, our two ladder trucks will also have Advanced Life-Support equipment.
In 2008, we also plan to complete the construction of Fire Station #5 located at 2830 Central Street. It is replacing the former station that was built in 1954 with three-bay, two story station which will also be the City’s first LEEDS (Green) Building. We plan to have it in operation by Fall of this year.
Through the overall efforts of the City to support Fire and Emergency Services, property owners enjoy insurance premium benefits of an Insurance Services Office (ISO) fire protection "Class 3" rating.
