Condo Waste & Recycling Services

This page outlines the services the City offers for waste services for properties with six units or more that have 75% owner occupancy rates. This does not include properties that are mixed-use.

Recycle Coach

As part of an agreement with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), the City of Evanston has partnered with Recycle Coach to offer more information on waste programming to its community members. Look up hundreds of materials and find which waste containers they are allowed in. Or, find information on drop-off locations or nearby collection events. Note for Condo properties, the service address information is linked to the property's water billing address.

Trash Service

The City contracts with Lakeshore Recycling to provide trash collection for condo buildings enrolled in the City’s program. Lakeshore Recycling provides twice-a-week trash pickup, and provides buildings with dumpsters and/or 95-gallon containers. Service for accounts is typically either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday collection days.

Recycling Service 

Recycling collection for condo buildings enrolled in the City’s program takes place weekly on Fridays. All recyclable items should be placed unbagged in the provided container(s). Check out the Recycle Coach App or the What Goes Where? page to learn more about accepted items.

Food and Yard Waste Service

Condo properties enrolled in the City's Condo program are eligible to utilize Food and Yard Waste services structured under the residential program. The collection is based on the residential collection schedule. The service is weekly during April through November, and collection occurs every other week during December through March. Winter collections will alternate between “A” weeks, which include Monday and Tuesday routes, and “B” weeks, which include Wednesday and Thursday routes. Residents are encouraged to use the Recycle Coach app to receive service reminders reflecting the new schedule.

Service Fees: Accounts utilizing a cart for collecting food and yard waste are charged a year-round service fee of $7 per month for the first cart, billed in increments of $14 per cycle on the water bill. Additional carts are billed at $11.93 per month.

Condo properties interested in the food and yard waste cart service should sign up with the City via 311.

Yard Waste Stickers: Beginning in 2026, LRS will replace the City as the distributor of yard waste stickers, which will be available at local retailers and community centers. Previously issued City stickers will be accepted until November 1, 2026. New stickers will be priced at $2.50 per sticker.

Billing 

The City charges a monthly fee of $11.56 per condo unit, which includes both trash and recycling services. This fee may appear on the condo unit owner’s bi-monthly City of Evanston water, sewer, and sanitation bill or may be billed to the condo association. Food and Yard waste cart service is billed also on water, sewer, and sanitation bills. 

• Trash and Recycling Service: $11.56 per unit per month ($23.12 every other month on the water bill)
• Food and Yard Waste Cart: $7.00 per month ($14 every other month on the water bill);
  • $11.93 for each additional cart beyond the first ($23.86 every other month on the water bill)
• Yard Waste Stickers: $2.50 per sticker

Special Pickup Fee: The City Council approved in 2025 a three-year pilot where a $1 per unit per month fee is applied to the water bills. Learn more about the guidelines and what is accepted on the City's Special Pickups webpage.

Contact 311

Properties can contact 311 to log damaged or missing waste containers. Can also report any missed collections or request changes to services for accounts.

Below is a list of the City-recognized holidays. If your collection day falls on or after the holiday, expect services for waste to be postponed by one day. Reminder that the Recycle Coach App is able to adjust notifications for service for holiday scheduling.
